Every year our local Wrestling Academies compete amongst themselves to win the prestigious Academy Shield. This year, in March, the competition will be hosted by Waberthwiate Academy in Bootle. The current holders of the Academy Shield are Kendal (see below). This sets the scene for the competitions that we all have opportunities to attend at those great local institutions, both large and small, that are the Lake Districts shows and sports. Individual wrestlers from the Academies compete throughout the year and we get the pleasure of hosting representatives from the Academies at Grasmere Sports and Show (Sunday 24 August).
Again in 2025, we will be hosting Bretons, Icelanders and Scots who want to wrestle at our wonderful sports ground, situated in the vale of Grasmere, where competitons have taken place for almost 175 years.
This month our Chairman, John Hibbert, will be travelling out to Pontivy in Brittany for the International Backhold Wrestling competition in support of our local wrestlers.
